Mission and Vision

Preserving the Rich Heritage of Theater Dance

Dance Machine International is dedicated to the preservation of theater dance. The organization’s mission centers on educating the next generation of dancers, choreographers, and artists not only through the masterworks of iconic figures such as Agnes de Mille, Jerome Robbins, and Jack Cole, but also by exploring the theater dance vocabulary developed across decades. Students are introduced to styles spanning from the 1920s Vaudeville and Cakewalk, the Latin dances of the 1930s, the Lindy Hop and Boogie Woogie of the 1940s, to the Rock and Roll of the 1960s. This extensive curriculum is delivered through dance classes, lecture demonstrations, showcases, teacher training programs, and documentaries, creating a comprehensive learning environment.

The Significance of American Theater Dance

American theater dance represents a significant part of the nation’s cultural heritage, transcending boundaries and uniting different backgrounds. Dance Machine International believes that genuine creative growth and innovation in dance can only be achieved by understanding its roots. The original creators of these diverse dance styles were immigrants whose ingenuity, vision, and creativity transformed their traditions into new forms of art. Their contributions laid the foundation for ongoing artistic evolution in American theater dance.

Comprehensive Education and Artistic Development

The organization is committed to fostering choreographers, dancers, and artists who possess not only technical skill but also a deep appreciation for the history and authenticity of theater dance. By grounding education in historical context, Dance Machine International ensures that its students become well-equipped, versatile performers and teachers. Graduates are prepared to excel in any area of dance, armed with a solid foundation and the versatility needed to adapt and thrive in the creative arts.
